One-half of the powerful hip-hop duo Mobb Deep who is well known as Prodigy died on Tuesday at the age of 42. In a statement to the rolling stone, the rapper’s death was confirmed by Mobb Deep’s publicist.

The statement said, “It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep.

“Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”

He suffered from health problems throughout his whole life. He had suffered from sickle cell anemia, a state in which red blood cell twists to form sickle-shaped and making scarcity of healthy red blood cell, from a long time ago.

Besides Havoc, other members of hip-hop company posted their commendation to prodigy, who includes: Ghostface Killah, MethoMan, Lil Wayne, Nas, Questlove, and Big Boi.

The American hip-hop duo of Mobb Deep consists of prodigy and his partner Havoc who was one of the most critically praised diehard East Coast Hip-Hop groups of all time.
