Jon Gruden was born to parents Jim and Kathy Gruden. His father Jim Gruden was a professional football regional scout and director of player personnel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was raised by his parents in Ohio with his brothers Jay Gruden and James Gruden. Jon’s brother, Jay played and coached in the Arena Football League and became a Head coach of the Washington RedSkins. And another brother James is a Radiologist at the Mayo Clinic.

Jon Gruden received education from Clay High School in South Bend, Indiana and graduated in 1981. He started his playing career when Jon attended Muskingum College in Ohio, and after one year he got transferred to the University of Dayton. Jon Gruden started his coaching career in Tennessee as a Graduate assistant from 1986-1987. In 1988, he served Southeast Missouri State as Passing game coordinator. In 1998, after Missouri state, Jon went to the Pacific as a Tight ends coach. During 90’s start, he served San Francisco 49ers as a wide receivers coach.

In 1992, Jon Gruden worked for Green Bay Packer I 1992 and later on, his assistant techniques helped him to be Wide Receiver’s coach from 1993 to 1994. Jon also served as an offensive Coordinator in Philadelphia Eagles.

His coach journey started from Oakland Raiders as a Head Coach in 1998 and served it for four years. Later on, Jon Gruden moved on to Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002 and got fired in 2008. He then became a Volunteer Assistant offensive line coach at Carrollwood Day School. In May 2009, he was hired by ESPN as to serve a color analyst on its Monday Night Football telecasts.

On 6th of January 2018, Jon Gruden returned to The Oakland Raiders team serving as a Head coach after nine years away from the NFL.
