One’s worth in the end is measured by the deeds rather than the earnings. The net worth of a person keeps fluctuating and changing but their goodwill, the work carried out remains the same and makes a bigger impact on others.
But a good net worth doesn’t do any bad either. It rather encourages the person to carry out the good and also reduces the limitations on the number of deeds. Ian McKellen is a well-known actor and he has a massive net worth but his good deeds are bigger than his net worth. Let’s learn about it along with his wiki-bio and his relationships.
What is Ian McKellen’s Net Worth?
English actor Ian McKellen has a net worth of $55 million. He is one of the acclaimed thespians of the British stage and screen. He hails from the prestigious University of Cambridge and made his professional debut in a 1961 stage production of A Man for All Seasons.
The following decade, he amassed an impressive resume and prestigious awards. Thus, Queen Elizabeth knighted him in 1991 for his achievements on the stage. He has had appearances in several British made for television movies and several underperforming movies.
Sir Ian McKellen also earned an Oscar nomination for his role in Gods and Monsters. The actor has since cemented his status by starring as Magneto in the X-Men films and Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings franchise. His versatility as an actor has contributed largely in his net worth.

The Lord of the Rings franchise has an estimated gross total worth of $5.82 billion which definitely impacted his worth. The movie where he played the iconic Magneto earned an estimated gross total of $5.01 billion so it’s rather not surprising seeing his massive net worth.

Although he wielded the weapon of great acting skills, it’s surprising to see that he hit his career peak in his sixties. It was then that his work won him multiple Laurence Olivier Awards, a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award, two Academy Award nominations, and five Emmy Award nominations.
Ian McKellen’s Dating and Married Relationships
Sir Ian McKellen is a prominent gay rights activist. He announced that he was a homosexual for the first time on BBC Radio in 1988, although he had come out in his personal and professional lives decades earlier.
McKellen co-founded Stonewall, an LGBT rights lobbying group in the United Kingdom named after the 1969 Stonewall riots. He is also the co-founder of Patron of GAY-GLOS.
He also stated that some of his friends refer to him as Serena. Following this, there were reports about his relationship with several men.
The first being, Brian Taylor, a history schoolteacher from Bolton, who had been with him for about 8 years before finally separating in 1972.
Later came Sean Mathias, a British director whom he started seeing in 1978 but this also did not last long. They met at the Edinburgh Festival and were together for 10 years but they broke up.
The reason behind the separation is said to be Seans growing jealousy of the success of his partner as McKellen was on the rise. His subsequent involvement with New Zealander Greg Nickels also saw an end.

There were rumors about McKellen’s love affair with his best friend Patrick Stewart too. And the reason for such gossip was the meeting of friends at an event dedicated to Mr. Holmes London premiere. At the event, they approached each other, they hugged tightly and also kissed.
However, Patrick married singer Sunny Ozell in 2013 and the rumors saw their end. The marriage ceremony was held by Ian McKellen. Nowadays, the actor openly communicates with journalists, and he speaks on various topics, but he reluctantly talks about his personal life.
It seems to affect the interests of other people so Sir Ian McKellen chooses to keep silent in the matter.
