A Chinese show has apologized after editing the 2017 photo of singer Selena Gomez and actress Francia Raisa’s post kidney transplant surgery.

Chinese TV show, Who’s The Murderer? has apologized for its disrespectful image of Selena Gomez’s kidney transplant image. In the recent episode of the variety show, it altered the picture of Francia and Selena’s post kidney transplant surgery. The American singer underwent kidney transplat surgery in 2017.

Likewise, in the edited picture , the two female American celebrities were replaced with two Chinese men.

After the episode aired, it created an uproar on the internet. Naturally, many people on China’s Weibo social media labeled the photo disrespectful to Gomez as she has lupus disease.

The songstress’ Chinese fan club uploaded a post on Weibo in which they brought up the matter.

“Selena’s original intention of publishing photos of her surgery to the public was to let fans understand her experience during the surgery and to draw attention to the disease of lupus,” read the viral Weibo post, which has received more than 100,000 likes. But now the show is editing the photo for entertainment. This is out of line.”

The event received attention globally. After receiving wide criticism for their action, including their viewers, Who’s the Murderer? ultimately apologized on Thursday. The show subsequently released a statement which read it held the “deepest regret” for its “negligence.”

The statement read:

“We expressed our deepest regret for hurting the people involved and those who care for the US stars due to our negligence in the production of show props.”

Furthermore, it also read that the show has removed the related content.

Who’s the Murderer? is one of China’s most known entertainment shows. On it, celebrities portray various characters as they solve real-life murder mysteries. The program airs on China’s Mango TV channel.
