On November 6, 2017, Andrew Yang filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for President of the United States in 2020.
His campaign proposes a $1,000 dollars per month Freedom Dividend to all U.S. citizens between the ages of 18 to 64 in the form of Universal Basic Income. It will be a response to predictions of mass unemployment from technological automation.

In a New York Times article, it reported that he is proposing various new policies. Such as a department for regulating the addictive nature of media, a White House Psychologist, making tax day a national holiday.
He also proposed increasing the salaries of federal regulators but limiting their private work after they leave public service to stem corruption. He is running on the slogan Humanity First and is the first Asian to run for Presidency as a Democrat.
On April 19, 2018, news came that Yang would be personally giving one resident of Iowa $1,000 per month.
It simply means that anyone who is above 18 years of age and is the resident of Iowa will personally receive $1000 starting from 2019.
On August 10, 2018, Yang was a keynote speaker at the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding, the largest Democratic fundraiser in Iowa. He made seven trips to Iowa and six trips to New Hampshire since they are the first states to vote in the primaries.
